I found this great deal (Jesus, do I sound like junk mail) back in December: 4 back issues of the handsome Hobart for $12 (yes, dollars), shipping included. I’ve been going through them slowly, to make the pleasure last. Both the fiction and essays are great (I haven’t been taken in as much by the short short pieces, but I am usually picky with these), and I have to say the absence of poetry is somehow welcome. Not that I have anything against poetry – I just appreciate the honesty of focusing on what they do well, rather than stuffing a few not-that-good poems between the prose pieces.
Hobart are accepting submissions of non-fiction, novellas and series of short-shorts at the moment (no short fiction; their website also publishes fiction under 2000 words).
